About this Event

Chaos Engineering involves running thoughtful, planned experiments that teach us how our systems behave in the face of failure. These experiments follow three steps: plan an experiment, contain the blast radius, scale or squash.

Jacob Plicque & Zach Bujnoch will lead a hands-on tutorial on Chaos Engineering, covering the tools and practices and metrics you need to implement Chaos Engineering in your organization. Even if you’re already using Chaos Engineering, you’ll learn to identify new ways to use Chaos Engineering within your engineering organization and discover how other companies are using Chaos Engineering—and the positive results they have had using chaos to create reliable distributed systems.

During this two-hour workshop, attendees will be broken up into teams of four, and each assigned a role that is critical to the Chaos Engineering Experiment process. You’ll work together as a team to plan and execute various Chaos Engineering experiments with the guidance of Jacob Plicque and the Gremlin Team.

Jacob Plicque

Jacob is a Solutions Architect at Gremlin where he works on Chaos Engineering, the facilitation of controlled experiments to identify systemic weaknesses and create more reliable applications. Jacob has worked on Chaos Engineering across a variety of verticals including finance, e-commerce, airlines, retail, and insurance. Jacob is also the co-host of the Break Things on Purpose podcast, a series dedicated to sharing Chaos Engineering experiences with industry experts. Jacob previously worked at Fanatics as a Senior Site Reliability Engineer where he was responsible for providing a reliable e-commerce experience to process over 1,100 orders a minute on peak days such as Cyber Monday and Black Friday.
