Girl Geek Academy Workshop: Creating ‘Blockshade’ art in Scratch

  • Online
  • Nov 14, 2020

This weekend, we’ll be learning about creating a new style of art called ‘Blockshade’ art using the website Scratch. Blockshade art looks a little bit like ‘cell shading’ art, used in games like Legend of Zelda: WindWaker!

One of our fellow GirlGeeks from the forums, Uniworldgirl, helped create this lesson, thanks to her helpful Scratch tutorials. Thanks Uniworldgirl for your help with this one!

To follow along with this workshop, you’ll need to sign up for a free Scratch account - you can sign up here: https://scratch.mit.edu/join

Want to learn fun new tech things and make new friends just like you? The Girl Geek Academy workshops are designed for you!

Our online classes for Girl Geeks ages 9+ are hosted by our skilled Girl Geek Academy team leaders and they are a great way to learn new tech skills.

We’re running these workshops every weekend, from 9:30-10:30am (AEST).

We’ll cover a range of tech skills and interests, ranging from looking at new ways to learn code, building your own fun games, art and so much more.

This environment has been created as a safe space for girls to connect with each other and learn together, supported by an experienced team as they learn and grow. The facilitator will use a camera, but the participants will not - everything will be done over chat. It's super fun and emoji are very welcome 😍

You will need a computer to complete the activities for this workshop - unfortunately a tablet doesn't offer the flexibility we need to support classes at this stage as we need to use multiple windows. So find yourself a computer and get ready to roll 👩🏾‍💻👩🏻‍💻👩🏿‍💻👩🏼‍💻👩🏽‍💻

To join us, first register on Tulu.la. Then simply click "Attend" on this page. We'll send you an email with calendar invite and reminders to make sure you don't miss anything. Return to this page to join us when the workshop is due to start. We can’t wait to see you there!
